Sermon Date: December 15, 2019
Speaker: Pastor Martin Hawley
Why Christmas? Do we really need Christmas? Seriously, why Christmas? As it turns out, we all need it!
The Christmas story doesn’t begin with two folks who can’t find a place to have their baby. It doesn’t start in Matthew or Luke. The Christmas story is an unbelievable, incoherent, impossible promise made 2,090 years before Christmas Day. The promise of Christmas was made to a man who chose to believe the unbelievable promise two thousand years before it ever came to be.
“The Christmas story is remarkable because it really does not begin with a couple who wasn’t sure how they got pregnant. It began with a couple who couldn’t get pregnant. It began with a couple who wasn’t sure if they would ever have a baby,” said Martin Hawley, pastor.
Part 2 of 3: Why God Needed Christmas (Galatians 4:4-5; Romans 5:7-8; Acts 3:14-15; Matthew 1:20-23) – December 14-15: God staged a demonstration. The world needed an illustration. We needed to see it to believe it. As you know, love must be shown to be known. If you don't show it, nobody knows it. That’s the message of Christmas.
