Servant Evangelism is our way of demonstrating the love of God by offering to do some act of humble service with no strings attached. It connects people to God in a natural, easy, low-risk, high-grace way. Who doesn't like to be given a cold soda on a hot day? Especially by someone who is smiling, happy, and having fun. It wins the heart, establishes relationships, and provides opportunities to share Jesus in a profound way that bypasses mental defenses.

It usually goes something like this:
"Hi, would you like a regular or diet?" (Soft Drink Giveaway)
"Oh, regular, thank you! This is so nice. I can't believe this is for free. Why are you doing this?"

Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God, and we always add an invitation to church or other method on connection that includes our church service times. Through these small touches, relationships with God are born as simple acts of kindness, and are done in the Name of Jesus.

That's it! Do that, and you've reached someone with the love of Christ! It's simple, practical, effective, inexpensive, and fun! Small things done with great love will change the world.

Servant Evangelism Stories

From Patricia M. | August 30, 2019 | Free Family Movie Night

The last movie night event was my first time at the Servant Evangelism project at our church. Arriving in advance I could give a hand setting up the amenities: Pop corn machine, Candy cotton, shaved colored ice, plus ice cream galore were ready for the guests.

As people started arriving, the beautiful front garden was filled with children, parents, grandparents and friends anxious to watch the giant screen stand on the grass. What a nice, homey, respectful and warm ambiance that SBBC creates for all of us to enjoy the evening! Being part of Servant Evangelism project that day was such a touching experience for me. On my way back home I felt my self full of love and more grateful than even before.

I recently was asked a question of whether our church outreach program each month was worth doing, should we continue it and does it have an effect on the community. Well I've been involved with several of them and truly believe that it is an highly successful event. Most of the people we have contact with are pleased, happy, touched and thankful about the gifts we bring them and some have shared their own stories. Whether it be small gifts, coffee, water, Florida fruit, cleaning up, raking or singing Christmas carols that we give out or do for free. I have seen that they are truly touched and they feel the love that is associated with what we are doing. It's not the good will of South bay that we are selling or giving away but it is a little of God's love that we are able to share with others in the community. There are always a few (and I stress only a few) that say no and shut the door. God has warned us to expect that, but the majority of the people are willing and pleased to accept God's love. And if they want to experience more of it or share with others they are welcomed to do so at South Bay. To me the purpose of these outreaches is to show that God's love is alive and can be found at South Bay Bible Church. The community around us is becoming aware of that because of the outreaches. This is what I've seen and experienced helping out with them and again its all for God's glory that we do this, sharing his love.

At one of the homes this man answered the door and said right away he’s not interested, I told him they were free and then he says I know you. I give him my name and he gives me his and it’s someone I used to work with in the courts. So we explain again what we’re doing about the fruit and he says he knows where our church is and had heard a lot of good things about us, what we do in the community. I told him he should stop down and visit and he said that he would. Pretty neat huh and this street was originally given to someone else. How God works.

Had a wonderful time today with Servant Evangelism, giving away delious tangerine fruit baskets to our community in East Moriches. Had a lot of receptive people, One couple just moved in to their new home, and I came up to the them telling that I was from Southbay Bible Church and wanted to give them a little sunshine with the tangerines, Told them about Southbay church and they were very interested. They want to come Sunday to check it out . And another woman jogging with her dog, told me she goes to East Hampton for church services with her parents but would like to go to Southbay much closer to her. Great experience.. Anyone who hasn’t tried Servant Evangelism I highly recommend you do, Not only will feel joy in doing a work for Jesus but you are blessing someone else who really needs it. Also working together as a church family you get to know one another better. Now what is better than that!!

Our group went to one house and a sweet older man answered the door. We told him we were from SBBC and wanted to share the love of Jesus and rake his lawn with no obligations. He looked shocked and said no obligation. I think it took some time for him to register that we really meant it. Then he looked out his door and saw our amazing crew ready to get to work he agreed. Along with doing servant evangelism is the fellowship going on outside the church. It is so encouraging and joyful to reach out to the community with my church family.

From Mike G. | January 17, 2017 | Coffee & Cider Give-A-Way

When Pastor asked us to write about any experiences we might have had at the coffee give away/window washing outreach, I first thought that I didn't have any. I didn't come into contact with people as I was picking up trash around the station and window washed one business. But thinking about it a bit, I realized that I felt happiness and joy from the others of our group who told of their meetings with customers. I was amazed by the fact that we gave away 80 cups of coffee and had numerous positive feedback from the people that were served. Maybe it isn't so amazing when you realize that God is at work here. I found joy that in a short time span we were able to touch and reach and show God's love, so I definitely consider this outreach a success. Especially for the person who was struggling with God that this was a blessing for them, that we are there when they needed God's love. It reminds me a little of the shepherd who left his flock to find the lost stray. I believe that if we touch and reach only one soul, then our outreach is successful and is worth the effort. For it is to God's glory that we do so. I say thank you to the people who were there spreading God's love and when a group of us are gathered together He will work wonders.

I thought the leaf raking project was an excellent way of helping our neighborhood as well as getting to know our church members, although I must admit I had it easy I was using the blower that I brought possibly by Design. LOL

From Susan L. | October 10, 2016 | Business Blast

It was such a blessing to have been part of this ministry. All the businesses we brought baskets to were so surprised and appreciative. Maria and I went to Dun Rite in Center Moriches and gave the gift basket to the owner. He was kind enough to bring us back to the employee room to give it to the workers there. Their faces looked very confused when they saw us. I guess maybe they thought we were selling something or there was a problem for them to fix. After we explained that this was a gift to show our appreciation for what they do in the area, their whole body language changed and there was truly joy on their faces. The owner told us that he usually brings issues for them to solve and fix. So God touched their hearts with love and kindness!! I can't wait for next month's project!! Susan
