Sermon Date: April 29, 2018
Speaker: Pastor Martin Hawley
Pride is something that rises up in each of us. It keeps us from apologizing, admitting we’re wrong, or showing any weakness. It keeps us from forgiving. It causes us to lie about our past, to cheat instead of lose, and to feel happy when someone else fails. It not only stands in the way of our relationships with other people, but it also stands in the way of our relationship with God.
Starting on Sunday, April 29, at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, and 4:00, South Bay Bible Church, will begin a new, three-part series entitled, Pride: How to See it, and What to do About it at 578 Montauk Highway, East Moriches.
“Pride. It shuts us in and shuts God and others out. It keep you from saying what needs to be said and hearing what needs to be heard. It’s so destructive in our lives,” says Martin Hawley, pastor.
Part 1 of 3 - Saying No to Pride (Psalm 10:4; Philippians 2:7-8) – April 29: Saying “no” to pride is saying “yes” to God. Pride is a sin that is so common to the human experience, and it is the gateway to all other sins. It promises to make us bigger, better, and more important, but it only makes us smaller, meaner, and less significant. It strips us of our capacity to connect with others. It stands between us and our heavenly Father.
