The Purposes of This Offering
To Support Local Missions, Evangelism, and Outreach
The mission of our church is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and Jesus has commanded us to reach out to lost people everywhere and share the Good News of the Kingdom of God. Part of this Christmas Offering will be used to support local missions, evangelism, and outreach block parties. Last year, we touched more than 655,847 people with an online message, Gospel presentation, Bible, invite, gospel tract, postcard, social media inspiration, poster, banner, or telephone call. Our church is reaching out, and we need to continue and build on this momentum. A $1,000 gift will touch 9,330 people with some sort of Gospel invitation.
Steve & Sharon’s Story
We have attended our church for a year-and-a-half now. Our journey began when we received a postcard to one of our special events back in 2016. We knew a little about God – enough to know we needed Him, but over the years, life happened. We began to drift from the church and God.
When the postcard came in the mail, we knew we needed to reconnect. We felt like it was confirmation from the Lord to attend South Bay.
I recently told our Community Group about the warm reception we received the first time we came to church. We felt the love of Jesus and the presence of the Lord, and we just knew South Bay was the place where we belonged!
“Three weeks after Easter 2016, Sharon recommitted her life to Jesus, and both Steve and Sharon joined a Community Group. Three months after that, Steve gave his life to Christ,” said Pastor Hawley.
Our faith continued to grow in church and group, and this past February, with our entire family present, we were baptized. Through the baptism video, we shared our faith and testimony about all Jesus has done for us, and our family saw the work God is doing in our lives. We can see God working in our family. He is changing their entire family for eternity!
“Now Sharon’s sister and mother are coming to South Bay and have joined a Wednesday night Community Group,” said Pastor.

Expanded Servant Evangelism Projects
Servant Evangelism is one of the most impactful ways to tangibly show God’s love to our community, and this year, God calling us to expand our relational evangelism outreach. Our goal this year is to reach 200 people every month with some sort of high-impact, hands-on, personal Gospel touch. As a result, we are taking our monthly Servant Evangelism Projects to a new level by increasing the magnitude of our projects. During these events, we (the church) will be Sharing God’s Love with our community in practical, tangible ways with no strings attached. CLICK HERE for more on Servant Evangelism.
Rocky & Tina’s Story (In Their Own Words)
Rocky and I had been praying for a church to belong to. It took about a year, and it was weighing heavy on my heart. One day, at the mailbox, there was a postcard that read, “Come back to church!” It had a pair of sneakers on the front which caught my eye! It was right around Christmastime, and we decided to go on Christmas morning for the first time. We enjoyed the sermon and felt welcomed the second we walked in! The message was right on according to the Bible, and the pastor was loving and sincere.
We signed up for the Servant Evangelism project, and three weeks later we were handing out coffee or tea to people at a gas station with other church members. Everyone was so welcoming and nice! This December will be a year, and we are thankful for Pastor and South Bay Bible Church!
Church, do you know what paid for the Coffee and Cider Servant Evangelism project that Rocky and Tina attended? The 2016 Christmas Offering! Your faithfulness in giving was the answer to their prayer for a church to belong to!
To Help the Poor through Benevolence and Counseling
Since 2006, South Bay Bible Church has served hundreds of people at their time of greatest need, and in 2012, we began helping people with Biblical Counseling. To date, we have been able to approve all valid requests for benevolence due to your generous giving. The Benevolence Ministry has allowed us to come alongside of people in distress due to difficult financial times, a death in the family, or in some need of Biblical Counseling. We are anticipating and preparing for a continued increase in benevolence requests in 2018.
I had an issue with hoarding, and this caused many problems in my life. I fought constantly with my sister about the mess in our home, and my 14-year-old daughter did not have her own room. My sister and daughter were always so embarrassed to have any of their friends over. The house was always looked bad. I was angry all the time because of the constant problems with everyone in my home.
I finally went to Biblical counseling through the church with Dr. Samaritano. I learned what the Bible said about storing up things for yourself on earth where moths eat and rust destroys and where thieves break in and steal (Matthew 6:19). I learned that I can’t take my stuff to Heaven, and God wants me to invest in reaching others not just gaining more stuff. The only thing I can take to Heaven with me is other people.
I began throwing stuff away. It was so slow at first because my stuff had such a hold on my heart. Trudy finally enlisted the help of some in the church, and that had a big impact on jump-starting my freedom in Christ from hoarding. It was so difficult, and there were times when I was so angry at the situation.
Now, Teanna has her own room. All the rooms in my house are clean. We could finally have people over to the house to visit, and last September, I had a very nice family from the church for a BBQ. We had a great time, and I loved every minute of it. My daughter even told me how proud she was of me, and that touched my heart so much.
To top everything off, my sister now feels like she can adopt a child. That will change my family forever. I praise the Lord for the work He has done in my heart through Biblical counseling. Thank you South Bay for making such a difference in my life!

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference
We want to continue offering the best opportunities possible for the people of the greater Moriches area to grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ! To do this, we want to use the best resources, offer the greatest opportunities to grow spiritually, and continue to create unique, welcoming environments (online and in person) to facilitate and maximize the most important relationship lost people will ever know – reconciliation with God through His Son Jesus.
We must be prepared to respond to any new ministry opportunity that God presents to us in the coming year, so give and give generously in this Sharing God’s Love Christmas Offering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why a Special Offering?
As part of God’s plan to grow the faith of the people in His church, God calls us to sacrificial giving from time to time. This special Christmas Offering is an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and prepare us for what God wants to do through South Bay Bible Church in 2018. This offering is not because we are behind in our budget; instead, it is to position us to make an even greater impact in our community and church in the coming year.
What’s the Difference between the Regular Offering and this Special Offering?
The regular South Bay Bible Church offering is the proportional amount (the full tithe of 10%) that we set apart on a systematic basis and give throughout the year. From time to time, there are opportunities to give in a sacrificial way. This Christmas Offering is one of those sacrificial occasions that stretch us to grow in our faith. This special offering should be over and above what you regularly give.
How Much Should I Give?
Since the goal is $75,000, this Christmas Offering will involve everyone. Please prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift that will stretch your faith. The precise amount you give is between you and God. Many in our church can give substantial gifts. Others will be able to give small amounts. This issue is not equal giving but equal sacrifice. What amount can you give that will stretch your faith. Several people are praying about giving the largest gift they have ever given to South Bay Bible Church. Will you join us in praying that prayer?
Why is the Goal so Large?
To whom much is given, much is expected. God has done many wonderful things through South Bay Bible Church, and He has given us big dreams and plans for the coming year. The ministries supported by this offering are BIG – local missions, evangelism, and outreach; servant evangelism projects; local benevolence, Biblical counseling, and other ministry initiatives. Big dreams require big faith and big funding. The accomplishment of these big dreams will be determined by your faith and gifts to this special Sharing God’s Love Christmas Offering.
When Should I Give?
The best time to give will be the first Sunday after you receive this packet. Please pray about making your best gift on that day. However, you can continue to give until January 31, 2018.
Please use the “Christmas Offering” area on the giving envelopes or include a note designating your gift for this special offering. Remember, consistent gifts over time add up – a person giving $50 per week over a ten-week period will give $500 to this special offering.
Can I Give Online Via Bank Check or Though Auto-Debit?
Yes. When you give at www.southbaychurchli.org/give via online giving, simply select “Christmas Offering” under the “Fund” drop-down menu. You may also use your mobile device to give through the Tithe.ly app.
Likewise, you can use your bank online payment option to send a check directly to the church office. Again, simply mark in the memo area that your gift is for the “Christmas Offering.”
If you would like to make a special, one-time auto-debit over and above your regular giving, simply call (631) 909-8241. Ask to speak with Gerry or email email@example.com – it’s that easy.
Can I Give In-Kind Gifts of Stocks, Bonds, or Property?
Of course! Since South Bay Bible Church is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization, there can be a tremendous tax benefit for you by giving in-kind gifts. For information on this type of giving, simply call (631) 909-8241. Ask to speak with Pastor Hawley or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are My Gifts Tax-Deductible?
All gifts to South Bay Bible Church are completely tax-deductible. Your gift will be deductible in the tax year given (i.e. gifts given in 2017 will be deductible on your 2017 taxes). Please be sure to include your name and address when you give so a receipt can be sent to you for tax purposes. You are not required to utilize a tax-deduction for your gift, but it is available for all gifts.
How Did We Arrive at a $75,000 Goal?
The $75,000 goal was prayerfully set. It is a God-sized goal that is estimated to accomplish big things in local missions, evangelism, and outreach; servant evangelism projects; local benevolence, Biblical counseling, and other ministry initiatives. This goal can only be accomplished through 100% participation and sacrificial giving by South Bay Bible Church attenders and members. Since we are expecting God to bless this special Christmas Offering, it has been determined that any amount over and above our goal will be divided equally between missions and ministry advancement.
How Will I Know if We Reach Our Goal?
Please pray for God’s guidance as we all give sacrificially. You will be updated on our giving progress during the Sunday services. Reaching this goal will be a celebration of what we can do together as we stretch our faith under God’s leadership.
